Lake Orion, MI – Lake Orion’s new Downtown Development Authority Director Matt Gibb was hired on March 11 and jumped right into work on March 12, according to a report shared by Orion ONTV. And on Wednesday, April 3 the DDA held a meet and greet at 313 Pizza Bar to welcome the new director and hear about his vision for Downtown Lake Orion.
“We’re really at an inflection point,” Gibb said. “A lot of developments about to happen Downtown in the district here. We really have to be careful that we don’t lose the identity of who we are and so the opportunity opened up and they’ve been gracious enough to say Matt we think you’re the right person to work with Janet and the team.”
Janet Bloom served as interim director while the DDA board went through the search project. She’s staying on board as Assistant Director.
Gibb said that the number one priority is the lumberyard project. The DDA purchased the property with $5 million in bonds with the intent of redeveloping it. In the short term they anticipate adding parking, but in the long term expect to work with developers to create a mixed use space that would include a public gathering area.
“Doing a project we can all be proud of is the biggest priority,” Gibb said.
Gibb formerly served as Deputy County Executive under L. Brooks Patterson. Prior to that he was Supervisor of Orion Township from 2008-2011.
The new Director told ONTV “Let’s get on to the next stage of where we need to be.”
