Waterford Township Library Welcomes New Director Julie Schaefer
(Waterford Township Library, April 13, 2024)
Waterford, MI – Waterford Township has appointed Julie Schaefer as the Director of the Waterford Township Public Library.
The position of Library Director has been vacant since the retirement of Joan Rogers in December 2023. Joan served for nearly 40 years of service at the Library, the last 19 of which were in the Director role.
Julie comes to Waterford Township from the Dearborn Public Library where she served in a variety of roles for more than 30 years, most recently as the Deputy Director for the past 15 years.
“We are happy to announce Waterford’s new Library Director Julie Schaefer,” said Waterford Township Supervisor Gary Wall. “We took our time to locate the right candidate for this important position for our community. Julie’s experience and passion for providing service and access to information for the community are a great fit for Waterford.”
Julie says she especially enjoys helping people find solutions and connections to people and organizations toward a common goal. She calls that connection “magic!”
“I love working with people of all ages and helping them find what it is they are seeking,” said Julie. “I truly believe the library is the hub of each community and it is a valuable resource for every resident and business in the community we serve.”
Julie plans to spend her early days in the new role learning what Waterford is doing and how it’s being done, then looking to the future to determine where it makes sense to grow and change, including a goal to expand service to Fridays.
With this, Julie extended an invitation to the community to provide input.
“I encourage everyone to stop by and say hello when you see me,” said Julie. “I would absolutely value knowing what you would like to see at your public library. If you don’t already have a Waterford Township library card, the fabulous staff will make that happen.”
The Waterford Township Public Library is located in the heart of the Township on Waterford’s Civic Center campus. The library serves residents of Waterford Township and the City of Lake Angelus, and is also a member of The Library Network library cooperative which helps expand access to materials across more than 50 libraries in Southeast Michigan.
