Caretaker Marivelis Serrano Charged with Embezzling from Elderly Client

Bloomfield Township, MI – On April 9, 2024, MARIVELIS SERRANO was arraigned at the 48th District Court on an eighteen-count felony warrant. The charges included one count of Embezzlement $100,000 or more, twelve counts of Uttering and Publishing, and five counts of Identity Theft.
On January 16, 2024, the Bloomfield Township Police Department was alerted to an alleged financial exploitation of our victim, an 85-year-old female resident of Bloomfield Township. Detectives launched an investigation and uncovered that MARIVELIS SERRANO, a 48-year-old female from Pontiac, had stolen $160,000 from the victim, and transferred the funds to her own accounts. Thousands of these dollars were spent to online gambling platforms.
It was also discovered that SERRANO had illegally used the victim’s debit card to buy thousands of dollars worth of goods, including $6,200 in Amazon purchases and $3,600 in Instacart purchases.
MARIVELIS SERRANO was employed and trusted by the victim as a caretaker. SERRANO’s job included house cleaning, transportation, and assistance with other day-to-day tasks. This case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office who issued the eighteen-count felony warrant. SERRANO surrendered herself to the 48th District Court. At SERRANO’S arraignment she was given a $50,000 cash surety or 10% bond.
