April Lennox Honored as Teacher of the Year by Waterford Foundation for Public Education

Waterford, MI – Haviland Elementary Teacher April Lennox was selected as the 2024 Waterford Foundation Teacher of the Year.
Waterford Teacher of the Year is sponsored by the Waterford Foundation for Public Education and Lunghamer. As Waterford Foundation Teacher of the Year, Lennox receives free use of a vehicle of her choice from Lunghamer and will be honored, along with other nominees, at the Excellence in Education reception on May 13.
Lennox has been teaching elementary school in Waterford since 2001 and currently teaches fourth grade at Haviland Elementary School. She believes that building relationships and making connections with students is the secret to getting students to learn.
“Making students know and feel that they are cared for and loved encourages them to be willing to learn. Meeting kids where they are academically is essential to helping build confidence and using that confidence to improve and apply their skills and abilities to be successful.”, says Lennox.
As a graduate of the Waterford School District, Lennox states “It’s very important to me to give back to the community that provided me with an excellent education.”
The Waterford Foundation for Public Education Teacher of the Year Award is a way of affirming the value the Waterford community places on educational excellence and the critical role the classroom teacher plays in providing it.
