“Chapel” Under Renovations for Oxford School District Damaged in Fire

Oxford, MI – The Oxford Fire Department was assisted by neighboring departments Tuesday evening at a fire at 775 West Drahner Road, in a portion of the building dubbed the “chapel.” The property formerly belonged to the Dominican Sisters and includes multiple quarters once used for residences.
The Oxford Fire Department put out a press release stating “During the evening of April 9, 2024 at approximately 8:13pm, the Oxford Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 775 West Drahner Road.
Dispatch reported that they received a call reporting the roof on fire on the east end of the building formerly known as the “Chapel” of the residential building. Upon arrival the Oxford Fire Department, the incident commander reported flames and smoke visible through the roof. The incident was immediately upgraded to a MABAS 2nd Alarm (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System).
An aggressive coordinated attack kept the fire contained to the chapel portion of the building. The chapel sustained significant damage from fire, smoke, and water. The remainder of the building sustained smoke damage and some water damage.
The Oxford Fire Department received assistance from the Metamora, Addison, Oakland, Orion, Independence, and Groveland Fire Department. The building was not occupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported during, or after the fire. At the time of the fire the building had been undergoing renovations to convert it for use by the Oxford School District. The fires does not appear to be of an incendiary or suspicious nature at this time.
