Student Charged with Domestic Terrorism for Threat Against Clarkston Junior High School
(Oakland County Times, April 5, 2024)
Clarkston, MI- A 15 year old Pontiac student is being charged with domestic terrorism after police say she threatened to “shoot up” her school. Oakland County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:
A student at Clarkston Junior High School was named in an Oakland County juvenile court petition with domestic terrorism for threatening to “shoot up” her school.
The 15-year-old girl, who is a resident of Pontiac, was detained Thursday morning shortly after a note was discovered in a bathroom at the school on Waldon Road in Independence Township.
She is being held in Oakland County Children’s Village.
“This particular threat was deemed to be non-credible, but we will always fully Investigate and seek to hold the perpetrator accountable,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “I appreciate the work and diligence of our team.”
The female student is to remain at Children’s Village until a hearing on April 18. A request that she be placed on a tether was denied today during a hearing as a juvenile court referee determined the girl was a flight risk and a danger to society.
The incident happened Thursday shortly before 11 a.m. A male student discovered a message written on paper towel in a bathroom in which the author threatened to shoot up the school. The male student reported his discovery to school officials, who in turn notified the school resource officer. Students and staff were in secure mode for about an hour.
Sheriff’s deputies thoroughly examined the building as a final determination of the credibility of the threat before relaxing the no movement mode. Classes continued and students were dismissed at the normal time. The investigation of the student revealed she had no access to a firearm and her parents did not own any firearms.
