Ferndale Police Arrest Robbery Suspect, Tout Flock’s Help in Identifying Vehicle

Ferndale, MI -Ferndale Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in a recent robbery attempt at 7 Eleven. They credited the city’s new Flock camera system with providing information to identify the suspect.
According to the police report, “On February 3, 2024, at approximately 3:55 p.m., Ferndale police officers responded to 7 Eleven, located at 1040 W. Nine Mile Rd, for a report of an armed robbery. An unknown male suspect entered the store with a knife demanding money from the store clerk.
“A customer then entered the store, interrupting the robbery and causing the suspect to flee the scene in an unknown silver SUV. No one was injured during the incident.
“Upon further investigation, the officers determined the make and model of the vehicle and a description of the suspect. “Detectives used the Flock system to obtain the suspect‘s vehicle’s license plate number.
“On March 21, 2024, at 7:02 p.m., officers responded to an alert from Flock indicating that the suspect’s vehicle had entered Ferndale. Officers conducted a traffic stop and upon further investigation discovered evidence that connected the driver to the February 3 armed robbery. The driver, identified as James Heflin, was taken into custody without incident.
“On March 22, Heflin, 24, of Oak Park, was arraigned by 43rd District Court Magistrate
Brennan on the following charges:
*Armed Robbery, 1 count, felony
Heflin was given a $100,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear next on April 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.”
