OC Restaurant Quest – Mexico Lindo in Waterford

Waterford, MI – Mexico Lindo is best known for their eye-catching marquee sayings, but their food is also quite popular in the Waterford community.
For my visit I picked out several items to go starting with a stuffed tomato. This simple appetizer is just that – a tomato that’s been gutted, stuffed with cheese, and baked.
I ordered the Street Taco Dinner made with BBQ pulled pork and served with beans and rice. The tacos were filling, and included fresh slices of avocados that were a nice touch.
I also could not resist trying the Mexican Pizza, which was very good. This was made with two deep fried flour shells layered with beef and beans, topped with melted cheese, onions, tomatoes, pepperoni, black olives, and sour cream.
The menu is full of traditional Mexican meals like burritos, tacos, tostadas, enchiladas and more. The Chimichanga Dinner is another example of classic fare. It’s made with deep fried flour tortilla filled with BBQ Beef, Ground Beef or Shredded Chicken, served with Sour Cream on the side as well as bean and rice.
There is also Hot Texas Chili Choice Diced Beef, Baked in Our Spicy Gravy. Topped With Cheese, Served with Chopped Onions, Sour Cream & Tortillas.
They even have a small section of American Food and a Kid’s Menu.
According to their website, Vincent Quintana had been working for General Motors in the late 1960s. He would bring authentic Mexican food for lunch, and began to trade his food for other people’s sandwiches. His co-workers loved the food and he and a buddy named Lalo decided to open a restaurant so that more workers and neighbors could have authentic Mexican dishes.
In March 1970 they opened, with each man working a different shift at GM so they could take turns cooking at the restaurant. In 1978 they were able to add a bar. Vincent and his wife Isabel sold the business to their daughter Elizabeth and her husband Kasper, who continue the restaurant with authentic recipes and a spirit of sharing their love of Mexican food with the community.
