(Oakland County Times, March 16, 2024)
Birmingham, MI – A man accused of selling adulterated pills through a Snapchat account has been arrested by Birmingham Police, with charges having been issued by Wayne County related to the death of a 19-year-old Birmingham man who overdosed on the Fentanyl in the pills.
Birmingham Police sent the following press release:
In September 2021, Birmingham Police and Fire personnel responded to a residence for a drug overdose. The victim, a 19-year-old Birmingham resident, was found deceased as a result of fentanyl intoxication. Birmingham detectives, in partnership with the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), investigated the incident and determined the narcotics purchase was facilitated through Snapchat and identified a suspect as Aron Miranda, a 24-year-old male from Detroit.
During an extensive multi-year investigation, detectives learned that Miranda was selling counterfeit prescription pills laced with fentanyl through Snapchat. A search warrant was executed at a Detroit residence by Oakland County NET detectives and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which resulted in the seizure of multiple forms of narcotics, firearms, body armor and currency. The evidence was presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, as the deadly narcotics purchase occurred in the City of Detroit.
In December 2023, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office authorized criminal charges against Miranda for Delivery of Controlled Substance Causing Death, Controlled Substance – Delivery/Manufacture of Less than 50 Grams, and Weapons – Felony Firearms.
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Birmingham detectives located Miranda and took him into custody for the warrant. The following day, Miranda was arraigned at the 36th District Court and given a $150,000 personal bond.
The Birmingham Police Department would like to thank Lieutenant Alex Linke for his tireless and persistent work on this case, the Oakland County SWAT and NET Teams for their assistance, and most of all, the family of the victim for their cooperation and dedication to seeking justice for their loved one and all those who have lost their lives due to drug overdoses.
