OC Restaurant Quest – Heroes Bar-BQ & Brew in Waterford

Waterford, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County led to some tasty smoked brisket at Heroes Bar-BQ & Brew in Waterford. Here there are a number of meaty selections, and even some darn good fish and chips.
The fish and chips came recommended and they were great – nice sized pieces of cod fried in house-made batter. Decently thick fries. Impeccably creamy with just a little bit of tang to it kind of cole slaw. All good stuff.
But I also knew that I could not write about a BBQ, or in this case Bar-BQ, joint without getting a taste of the meat. I opted for the brisket, which was perfectly smoked, with crispy edges, thin little ribbons of fat through the succulent beef. It was smoked with hickory and cherry with a hint of charcoal, served with a side of sweet BBQ sauce, mustard, and baked beans. I also ended up with a cup of dill potato soup and a buttery soft roll.
The atmosphere is that of any good neighborhood bar and restaurant – with plenty of cheerful regulars and lots of tables to accommodate the food which is clearly still made with pride even after thirty years in business.
Other smoked meats include St. Louie spare ribs, smoked sausage and pulled pork sandwiches. There’s also BBQ shrimp, baby back ribs, chicken and pork chops. Seafood is also a specialty of Heroes, with char-grilled or black jack salmon, panko cod, and plank whitefish keeping the fish and chips company on the menu. There are also burgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, salads, and more on this robust menu.
