OC Restaurant Quest: Lettuce in Downtown Rochester

Rochester, MI – In Downtown Rochester there’s a delightfully easy and mostly healthy restaurant that I’m sure will be a repeat destination for this food columnist.
It’s called Lettuce, and it’s great.
Lettuce is known for salads, wraps, smoothies, and snacks. So I tried one of each.
For the salad I picked the Strawberry Salad. When ordering a salad one has the choice of lettuce type. I picked spinach. It came topped with chicken, fresh strawberries, goat cheese, walnuts, red onion, and cucumber. There are several other salads, including Caesar, Cherry, Antipasto, Garden, BBQ Pasta salad and more.
For the wrap I had the Italian, which is filled with ham, salami, iceberg lettuce, mozzarella, tomato, black olives, red onion, and Italian dressing. I loved that all the fillings were chopped and mixed, rather than sliced meats, because it meant that the flavors were better mixed together. Other wraps include the Tuna Wrap, Greek Wrap, Turkey Club, Veggie and more.
For the smoothie I was in the mood for something tropical, so I picked the Creamsicle Smoothie – a blend of orange, banana, mango, pineapple, almond milk and vanilla extract. The smoothie selection at Lettuce is divine. Enjoy a Date Night made with coconut milk, medjool dates, almond butter, honey and banana. Or the Hulk made with kale, banana, blueberries, almond milk, and spiralina. There are several others including the Banana Pudding Smoothie, the Berry Booster, and the Junior’s.
Lettuce has a number of dessert choices as well, and I picked the mini pistachio cake. The cake came in an adorable tin, and it was topped with beautiful frosting and stripes of pretty green pistachio pudding and chopped pistachios on top. Under the baked goods section of the menu are several cakes and pies. Pies come in lemon, peach, apple, cherry and blueberry. And among the cakes are such treats as s’mores cake and banana pudding cake.
Lettuce has tables for dining in as well as easy online ordering to go. There are two locations. The Rochester location is at 121 S. Main Street. There’s also a location at 52957 Van Dyke in Shelby Township.
