Downtown Holly Gets $50,000 GM on Main Street Grant
(Staff Report, March 2, 2024)
Holly, MI – Main Street Holly is one of five recipients in the nation of the GM on Main Street Grant. Powered by General Motors and Main Street America, the program awarded five $50,000 grants to nonprofit organizations and municipal government entities near GM facilities to implement innovative placemaking initiatives in their local districts.
The grant will support our Battle Alley and Ganshaw Park beautification project, which will help bring some new tress, fixed sidewalks and other amenities to the areas.
“This was a great surprise for us. Our design team works hard to make things happen and be fiscally responsible at the same time, so grants like this help us to push forward our vision of creating beautiful placemaking in the Holly DDA district” said Nick Klempp, Main Street Holly Director.
Made possible by General Motors, this grant program prioritized applications that were place-making focused, innovative, inclusive, prioritize pedestrian safety, and replicable or easily scalable for other Main Street programs.
This year, the GM on Main Street grant recipients are the City of Bowling Green (Bowling Green, Ky.), the City of Columbia (Columbia, Tenn.), the City of Hapeville (Hapeville, Ga.), Holly Downtown Development Authority (Holly, Mich.), and Main Street Pontiac (Pontiac, Mich.).
From safer, local artist-designed crosswalks to a maker’s village on a vacant lot to beautification initiatives to thoughtful tree coverage and much more, this year’s GM on Main Street grant recipients will be fueling innovative and strategic placemaking initiatives that benefit the whole community.
“GM on Main Street has become a catalyst for place-based progress in our communities across the U.S.,” said Heidi Magyar, executive director of Corporate Giving at GM. “We’re proud to work with Main Street America as they help connect resources to these important and worthy nonprofit and municipality projects.”
