OC Times Restaurant Quest – J’s Penalty Box in Ferndale

Ferndale, MI – Back in 2020 I wrote about the Coney pizza at J’s Penalty Box in Downtown Ferndale, which remains one of the best pizzas I’ve had.
I went back again recently, and this time I opted for the Marinated Chargrilled Chicken Hoagie. This sandwich, made with Marinated free range chicken breast, Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato on a grilled hoagie bun, was genuinely great. The chicken was perfectly prepared, The tomatoes were fresh and crisp, The bun was soft and comforting. The cheese was nice and melty. I loved the sweet potato tots as well.
My friend ordered the Penalty Box Maurie Salad, made with Greens with ham, turkey, swiss cheese, sweet pickles and green olives tossed in Maurice dressing. The salad was huge, leaving my friend with plenty to take home for later. They also indulged in a cup of the house-made chili.
Other menu options include the Gobbler Burger (made with turkey), the Corned Beef Reuben, Pierogi Plate, Taco Platter and more. They also make a fantastic Dill Pickle Pizza.
This fun and cozy sports bar gets busy when big games are on, and is a popular spot for evening regulars. Guests can dine in or do carryout.
