Royal Oak City Hall Collecting Silly Socks for World Down Syndrome Day Fundraiser
(Staff Report, Feb. 18, 2024)
Royal Oak, MI – The City of Royal Oak is partnering with Keller Elementary School on a fundraiser to support GiGi’s Playouse, an organization that helps people with Down Syndrome – and they need silly socks to help!
The City shared the following:
Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. That’s why the City of Royal Oak is joining forces with Keller Elementary School to raise awareness.
Socks collected (the more outrageous the better) will be mismatched and sold so people can wear their crazy socks on March 21. 3/21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome.
All proceeds will go to GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center.
Look for a donation box in the lobby of City Hall!
