Blumz Celebrates Opening of New Location in Clawson
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 13, 2024)
Clawson, MI – The flower power of Blumz – an award-winning local florist that has been delivering smiles for nearly 25 years – has put down roots in Downtown Clawson for their latest location.
Established in Ferndale over two decades ago, Blumz has not only helped spread happiness through flowers, they’ve been part of the community. That community-love blossomed over the years to include a shop in Downtown Detroit, which closed during the pandemic, and one in Holly that continues to thrive.
The newest location at 29 S. Main Street brings not only flowers, gifts and space for community events and classes. A ribbon cutting Friday introduced the community to the business – and to the business’ new owner.
Amanda Forman purchased Blumz last year and is excited to be expanding and making the floral empire her own. Forman had worked seasonally for previous owners Jerome Raska and Robbin Yelverton. The fellas – who are well-known and loved in the communities they serve and in their profession – continue to work at the business and ensuring a successful succession. Though the “by JRDesigns” has been dropped from the name, their welcoming disposition and creative eyes will still be part of the Blumz family.
Foreman lives in Ferndale and enjoyed working for Blumz in the past, daydreaming of what it would be like to own her own shop. “A few times I joked ‘someday when I own this place,” she said with the kind of smile one gets when their dreams are blooming all around them.
She’s also learned business firsthand working with her husband who is a restaurateur.
The ribbon-cutting included a peek at the bouquets, houseplants, and decor just waiting to bring customers a bit of joy. County Commissioner Penny Leubs and Clawson Mayor Paula Millan were on hand, as well as representatives of Downtown Clawson and the Clawson Chamber of Commerce.
2023 Mrs. Michigan Kelly Westbrook also made the trip from Oxford to share in celebrating her friend’s new shop. “Amanda is one of the sweetest and most supportive people I know, and I’m so proud of her,” Westbrook said.
Joan Horton, Director of the Clawson Downtown Development Authority loves being able to see the giant scissors put to work at ribbon cuttings like this. “Downtown Clawson has great collection of destination businesses and we are so excited to add Blumz to that list. We know Blumz will soon be the destination for fresh flowers for Clawson and beyond.”
All three Blumz locations are open and ready for the rush of Valentines Day.
