Pleasant Ridge Woman’s Club Carries on Tradition of Friendship and Service

Pleasant Ridge, MI – The Pleasant Ridge Woman’s Club is a group rooted in supporting other women. Just over 90 years old, the club first started as a social group for women. Since then, they have done a tremendous amount of things to help women feel and become successful.
Every year the club gives out about 5-7 scholarships. They also help fund the Ferndale High School musicals, and they donate to food kitchens, humane societies, and community centers. They even got the Pleasant Ridge Community Center built, and they help supply things for it. They host many events for members, such as soup and salad sit and chats and trivia nights to raise money for their scholarships. Other fundraisers include rummage sales, antique sales, and community dinners.
To celebrate their 90th Anniversary, the club hosted a Spring Brunch, which included a fashion show of styles from the decades. Members dressed up in these clothes and shared the 
club’s accomplishments from the decade they were representing. One member, who is in charge of the costumes for the Ferndale High School musicals, searched her many racks of clothing at the school to find actual vintage clothing for the brunch. Some members even had their own vintage clothing, such as matching mother and daughter dresses from the 1950’s. It was an event full of fun, with many former members in attendance, as well as past Pleasant Ridge residents and multiple generations of women.
The club has lots of history, one of which being their 
scholarships for nurses in World War Ⅱ. They also petitioned for the first center of the club in the 1940’s, and they established a library service in the 1950’s. This service allowed for every kid to have a library card. The club has done a lot for its community, and it recently became a 501 (c) (3) organization.
The PR Woman’s Club currently has around 65 members, and all someone has to do in order to become a member is ask to join. The club has meetings every month, and there are different committees that members can be a part of. Sometimes the club will get together and go to museums, Eastern Market, or other fun places. They also like to do things during the evening/weekend for women who work during the 
day, showcasing another way how much they care for women.
This club is very centered around women supporting women. The members of this group care deeply for each other, and their programs have been very women-centric. They recently had a member who got into an accident, and they all chipped in to help, emphasizing how much they focus on caring for people.They help those in need, such as providing diapers and clothes, and they offer opportunities, like with their scholarships. The club has even seen increased numbers with younger women joining, mingling different age groups and experiences.
Club President Pamela Bushey and Director Pat Church have both been members 
for decades. When asked why they joined the group, “It was actually Pat that asked me to,” Pamela laughs, “I love being around these ladies. They’re a lot of fun. It’s a nice club to belong to.” Pat was also invited to the club by a different member, and she explains, “I love the camaraderie. It’s a great group of women.”
The PR Woman’s club offers many opportunities and support to women, and it’s a great place to reunite old friendships or create new ones that will last a lifetime. With history almost a century old, the club has done a lot for women and their community.
