Suspects Arrested in J’Son Markell Hunt Homicide Case

Pontiac, MI – Sheriff’s detectives from the Pontiac Division have taken two suspects into custody in relation to the January 14th shooting which claimed the life of 27-year-old J’Son Markell Hunt and left another man in critical condition.
Based on evidence obtained at the scene, along with eyewitness statements, detectives were able to positively identify 26-year-old Jermaine Lee Jackson of Pontiac as the prime suspect in the homicide. Additionally, detectives were able to identify 25- year-old Ja-Vontay Darnell Boykin of Pontiac as an accessory to the crime.
Jackson was taken into custody in the City of Detroit on January 25 th without incident as he was reporting for a mandatory probation meeting for a previous felony conviction out of the United States District Court of Eastern Michigan.
His accomplice, Ja-Vonaty Boykin, was taken into custody without incident on January 20th in the City of Pontiac. Jackson was arraigned today before the Honorable Judge Jeremy Bowie of the 50 th District Court on the following felony charges issued by the Oakland County Prosecutors Office:
• Ct. 1 Homicide – Open Murder
• Ct.2 Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
• Ct.3 Assault with Intent to Murder
• Ct.4 Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
• Ct.5 Weapon – Firearms – Possession by a Felon
• Ct.6 Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
• Ct.7 Weapons – Carrying Concealed Jackson was denied bond in the case and is scheduled for a probable cause conference on February 6th before the Honorable Judge Rhonda Gross of the 50 th District Court.
Ja-Vontay Boykin was arraigned on January 25th before Judge Bowie of the 50 th District Court on the following charges:
• Ct.1 Accessory after the Fact (Felony)
• Ct2. Accessory after the Fact (Felony)
• Ct.3 Lying to a Peace Officer – Violent Crime Investigation A bond of $250,000 cash/surety 10% was set for Boykin. A probable cause conference is also scheduled before Judge Gross on February 6th.
“I am proud of the work by our team to take these two off the street” Sheriff Bouchard said. “They must be held accountable for this senseless shooting and violent homicide.”
Both Jackson and Boykin are currently being held in the Oakland County Jail.
