OC Restaurant Quest: Cloverleaf Pizza in Clawson (and Beyond)

Clawson, MI – Cloverleaf Pizza has been around the Detroit area since 1953, but only more recently opened a Clawson location at 204 E. 14 Mile next to Bigby Coffee.
For my quest to try every every restaurant in Oakland County I opted for the BLT pizza, with ample mozzarella, crisp flavorful bacon, and fresh lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a soft thick crust. This was definitely among my favorites as far as pizzas go.
The salad was great too. I got the Antipasto Salad made with lettuce, ham, salami, provolone, tomato, cucumber, black and green olives, garbanzo beans, and pepperoncini with Italian dressing. Other salad choices are the Caesar, the Greek, and the Garden. The salad had plenty of fresh ingredients and a nice mix of flavors.
At Cloverleaf you can build your own pizza, or pick one of their classic choices. There is traditional crust as well as gluten free and cauliflower crust options. There are several pizzas to choose from including Veggie, Supreme, Cheese Burger, Hawaiian, and BBQ Chicken.
There are subs, calzones, and wings as well.
According to their website, Cloverleaf founder Gus Guerra helped create what is now known as Detroit style pizza in 1946 – square deep dish pizza at a place called Buddy’s Rendezvous, which grew into the Buddy’s chain. He and his business partners parted ways in 1953 and Guerra opened Cloverleaf Bar and Restaurant in what is now Eastpointe.
Now Cloverleaf has locations in Grosse Pointe, Clawson, St. Clair Shores, Shelby Twp, Roseville, Macomb, Sterling Heights, Chesterfield and Eastpointe.
