OC Restaurant Quest: Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse in Royal Oak

Royal Oak, MI – Royal Oak, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with some carryout from Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse in Royal Oak.
This modern take on traditional fare means a beautiful selection of unique dishes. I started with an appetizer of Beef Negimaki Scallion & cheese wrapped in thin-sliced steak.These indulgent bites were warm and comforting with a perfect green onion flavor.
The Sweet Mango Roll was also a delight. This roll is made with smoked salmon, tempura, mango & cream cheese, drizzled w/ mango sauce. The vibrantly flavored mango sauce mixed with the fatty texture of the salmon and cream cheese brought everything together. I was also happy with my second choice – the Happy Roll. With this there fresh slices of salmon & tuna over an avocado & asparagus roll.
Other creative sushi choices include Mexican Roll (with jalapeno tempura over shrimp tempura & cream cheese roll, drizzled w/ spicy mayo & eel sauce), the Ichiban Roll (with seared tilapia over shrimp, crabstick, cucumber, spicy mayo roll), and the Deep Fried Crispy Eel Roll (with grilled eel, avocado & cucumber).
Kyoto is also known for their Hibachi, including filet mignon, scallop, New York strip, lobster, chicken and more. Other dinner choices included Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), Teriyaki New York Strip, and Unagi Donburi (grilled eel).
