OC Restaurant Quest: Graceland King Gyro in White Lake

White Lake, MI – You don’t have to be a fan of Elvis Presley to love the food at Graceland King Gyro, but if you do you’ll have two great reasons to visit this unique carryout spot/wine shoppe located at 7505 Highland Road in White Lake.
The shop has rows of bottled spirits, interspersed with Elvis memorabilia. A life-sized “King” statue greets guests as they come in. The food is named in homage as well.
On my quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County I ordered the “Elvis and Priscilla,” a fresh-made gyro stuffed with both marinated chicken and gyro meat, along with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a perfectly flavored Tzatziki sauce.
This overstuffed handheld was as messy as it was delicious. For sides I had the housemade hummus and the baba ghanoush, which is is a savory eggplant dip with tahini, garlic, and citrus. Both sides were creamy and fresh.
Graceland also offers a variety of “epic” toasted subs, fresh salads, and pizzas – including the Gyro Pizza! Other choices include the BLT pizza, BBQ chicken, and Hawaiian made with ham and pineapple. Other sides and extras includes fresh pita bread, grape leaves, tabouli, and Bosco sticks. There are also shawarma sandwiches and Greek bowls.
According to their website, owners David Sr. and David Jr. have been in business in White Lake for over 30 years. “Dave Senior fell in love with Elvis before he ever came to Michigan. He heard a song in a rental car, playing on someone’s left behind cassette. Lo and behold the singer was the King himself, and thus began his lifelong commitment to Elvis and his legacy.”
