Royal Oak Schools Announces “Raven Round Up” Student Podcast

Royal Oak, Mich. – Royal Oak Schools is proud to announce a new initiative from the high school. Royal Oak High School Senior Sam Klonke started a podcast on high school athletics.
The podcast, The Raven Round-Up, is in its infant stages but is already gaining momentum. Klonke started the project just three weeks ago in his advanced production class.
“I started this podcast fueled by my love for sports, especially those at ROHS. Seeing the lack of a platform for Royal Oak sports, I wanted to bridge that gap and share valuable information with our community,” said Klonke. “Bringing my close friend and teammate on board as a co-host came from our shared desire for this project.”
He recaps the week’s sporting events with Junior Ben Machiniak. The duo has good chemistry, which makes for an entertaining show. They have added guests to the podcasts, such as student-athletes and coaches. There are even segments from the sideline at games. The podcast is similar to those done by professionals, with ESPN serving as inspiration.
“Sam came to me and said “I have something to show you, and I just want you to watch it,” Film/Television/Video Production teacher at Royal Oak High School, Mike Conrad, said. “He showed me a video he produced to pitch a new podcast idea. He had the title, the logo, the co-host, and everything else he needed to get this podcast off the ground. I was happy to guide him through learning the process of recording the podcast, and since then, he has tackled the scheduling, the audio and video production, the distribution, the marketing, and the vision for a podcast that could become his legacy at Royal Oak High School. Every so often, a student comes along with a certain drive and grit that you can’t deny. I’m proud to call Sam a student.”
“Our goal is simple: shine a spotlight on every ROHS team, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve,” Klonke added.
