OC Restaurant Quest: Steve’s Deli in Bloomfield Hills

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Steve’s Deli in Bloomfield Hills has a huge menu full of choices, and I decided to try a few of them for the Oakland County Restaurant Quest.
To start there was the housemade Kreplach soup, with lots of thin noodles and the bright flavors of chicken and carrots.
I wanted to test out their “overstuffed sandwiches,” so I ordered the egg salad on an onion roll and the beef brisket, also on an onion roll. Both were, indeed, overstuffed. The egg salad was unique in that the eggs were chopped up more finely than in other egg salads I’ve had, and also seemed to be more yolk than white. This gave it a thicker flavor.
The brisket had a large portion of meat, and not much in the way of fat. There are many dressing choices available for this meaty beast, including spicy mustard, mayo, 1000 island, BBQ sauce, horse radish and more.
My personal favorite item was the side of stuffing. This perfectly made mix of bread and veggies soaked with broth was incredibly comforting, with carrots and onions giving it the right amount of texture and flavor.
Just for fun I ordered the swanky franky, a beef hot dog wrapped in cheese and bacon, then grilled to a divine crispness and served on a soft bun. This was a flavorful experience.
And for dessert I picked the cheese blintzes topped with blueberries and sour cream. This popular restaurant has a row of booths for dining in, plus a long deli counter full of meats, cheeses, side items, treats and more.
The menu also includes over a dozen salad choices, including Oriental chicken salad, Steve’s Gone Skinny Kale Salad, the Maurice, and the Bergdorf which is made with mixed greens, tomato, grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, egg, beets, Gruyere cheese and Russian dressing.
For comforting hot dishes one might pick off-the-bone roast turkey, stuffed cabbage, beef short ribs, or chicken pot pie. There are also burgers, and fish plates including white fish salad, Nova Scotia Lox, and Kippered salmon. The other food choices are too numerous to describe.
