Arrests Made After Ferndale Man Handcuffed, Home Robbed, by Men Claiming to be Police
(Ferndale Police, Dec. 11, 2023)
Ferndale, MI – On Friday, August 4, 2023, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Ferndale Police Department responded to a home invasion that occurred in the 100 block of West Woodland Street. The on-scene investigation revealed that four unknown males, impersonating police officers, approached a 65-year-old resident as he exited his home. The victim was handcuffed, and the unknown males entered his home. The investigation determined this was a targeted act. There were no injuries, and the suspects fled the area.
Ferndale’s newly acquired Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader technology assisted detectives with the investigation.
A joint investigation with the FBI Oakland County Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force led to the execution of search warrants at four different locations. Investigators recovered evidence connected to the armed robbery along with 20 illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, narcotics, and over 800 rounds of ammunition. Some of the firearms were stolen and/or altered.
Three suspects have been arrested, thanks to the investigation by the Ferndale Police Department and the FBI Oakland County Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force. “Solving this complex case was made possible by the hard work of these investigators,” said Ferndale Police Chief Dennis Emmi. “The Ferndale Police Department is very grateful for the strong partnerships and support between these state and federal agencies.”
“The defendants who impersonated law enforcement officers took advantage of the trust that exists between law enforcement and the communities they serve in Michigan,” said Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan. “All officers carry badges and credentials that are used to verify their identity. If you believe someone is impersonating an officer, you may ask their agency to confirm their official business. Today’s arraignment demonstrates the excellent work achievable through collaborative task force partnerships.”
This case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, and all three suspects were charged with the following:
• Edward Clay, 43, of Detroit:
• Trevor Glenn, 37, of West Bloomfield
