Auburn Hills Announces New Mayor Brian Marzolf, New Council Members

Auburn Hills, MI – Last night, Auburn Hills City Council held their first regular meeting since the election on November 7.
The City welcomed newly elected City Councilmembers Dr. Shawanna Fletcher and Mr. Jack Ferguson.
Also, last night, City Council selected a new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Longtime resident Brian Marzolf was elected to the position of Mayor by his City Council colleagues. Mayor Marzolf is retired from the City of Auburn Hills and served as its Recreation Director for 26 years.
He replaces Kevin McDaniel who has been Mayor of the City for the last ten years and has served on City Council for sixteen years.
Mr. McDaniel continues to serve as a Councilman.
“I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead this city council and to serve the residents of Auburn Hills as your Mayor. I look forward to working together with the City Council, staff, and the entire community to make decisions that are balanced and bring value to our residents and local businesses, while preserving the hometown feel that helps make Auburn Hills a great place to live, work and play,” Marzolf said.
Elected to the post of Mayor Pro Tem is Councilman Eugene Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins succeeds Mayor Pro Tem Tim Carrier who was not re-elected to City Council this term.
The Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem will serve two-year terms.
Also continuing on City Council is Councilwoman Cheryl Verbeke. This is Councilwoman Verbeke’s fourth term on City Council and has the distinction of receiving the highest number of votes on November 7.
And finally, all are joined by Councilman Henry Knight who is completing the second two years of a four-year term expiring in 2025.
