OC Restaurant Quest: White Castle’s New Items

Ferndale, Oak Park, Farmington Hills, Troy, Southfield, Pontiac, Howell, Canton, Detroit, Warren, MI – Back in September, White Castle introduced two new items – French Toast Sliders and Cheddar Cheese Rings, and as I am on a quest to feature restaurants across the county, thanks to White Castle, it only seemed fitting to give these new treats a try.
When I pulled the French Toast Slider out of the bag at the Ferndale location, my immediate response was, “Awww, how cute!” The French Toast buns are a tiny, slider sized version of the classic sweet dish. And, they taste amazing! With such perfect texture and perfect cinnamon-swirled sweet flavor, I can just imagine the food-inventors at White Castle figuring out how to make the perfect French Toast for this concept. In the middle is one’s choice of hickory smoked bacon or sausage, along with a freshly-cracked egg and melty American cheese. I opted for the sausage, which had some impressive spice to it. This kind of artisanship is unmatched in the fast-food realm.
The cheddar cheese rings are also culinary gold to those who love robust cheddar flavor. Crispy salty breading with a cheddar middle make this side item unique. According to the company, cheddar cheese rings took over a year to perfect before making it into the chain of family-owned castles.
To round out my visit I had a couple classics as well. Though I love the traditional White Castle sliders, I’m also a fan of the chicken ring sandwich which has two crispy chicken rings on a soft slider bun with cheese. I like to get mayo packets and mix them with pepper for this indulgent sandwich, and also for dipping fries in. The fries are a solid tradition as well, all deliciously crispy and crinkle-cut.
