Holly Chamber, DDA, and Officials Pass Resolutions to Promote Shopping Locally
(Holly DDA, Nov. 16, 2023)
Holly, MI – This Fall The Holly DDA, The Village of Holly, Holly Township and the Holly Area Chamber of Commerce have all come together and supported and passed resolutions to remind everyone about the importance of shopping local.
This year has been a tough year for small businesses with coming right off COVID to a tough economy, and then for The Village of Holly, the devastating fire. “All of these negative things have taken a toll on our small business and, as we all know, small businesses are the backbone of our community. They are a vital component of our local economy, they contribute to the unique charm of our town, create jobs, foster a sense of belonging and donate to many charities and organizations.” Said Nick Klempp, Holly DDA Director.
The Holly entities have come together to say we are proud to celebrate and support small businesses that are making a significant impact on our community. The Holly area boasts a diverse array of shops that cater to various tastes and preferences, creating a charming tapestry of retail experiences. Visitors can walk around and discover an eclectic mix of quaint boutiques, clothing stores of all kinds, repurpose shops, home décor, furniture, jewelry, bakeries, specialty gift shops, flowers, restaurants, antiques and more! Holly caters to a wide range of tastes and has everything from the wants to household needs like a laundry mat, a grocery store, auto stores, pet needs, banks and more to make it a one stop shop place to live, work and play. Not to mention all the great events and outdoor amenities that Holly has to offer! Holly provides a delightful shopping haven, where each storefront tells its own story, making the experience truly enchanting for all who stroll through its picturesque streets.
“Shopping local is so important. Small business are the heartbeat of the community and shopping at our businesses allows us to give back through sponsorships and donations to local charities. Our shops in the DDA cater to a wide variety of customers and include items that are affordable to any family” said Linda Stouffer owner of Battle Alley Coffee
In these challenging times, small businesses have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to their customers. They have been the lifeline of our neighborhoods, offering unique products, personalized services, and a sense of connection that is hard to find elsewhere. Small business plays an invaluable role in our daily lives.
When speaking about the importance of shopping local in the longevity of a business and why people love to shop local Marta from Marta’s Loft said “Marta’s Loft, a women’s clothing boutique, has been in business in historic downtown Holly since 2001. My store has become a staple of the community for over two decades and has become a popular destination for women who hate shopping but love to shop. My background in sewing and design lends itself well to providing style consultations. Moreover, I have a loyal customer base that appreciates the personal attention they receive and many of my friends today were customers first. I attribute much of the store’s success to the support of the local community; shopping locally has helped Marta’s Loft thrive and become an integral part of the town’s economy. By supporting local businesses like Marta’s Loft, customers are not only helping the business owners but also contributing to the growth and development of their community.”
As we head into the holiday season, we would like to express our gratitude to all the customers, partners, and community members who have supported our local Holly shops throughout the years.
Karen Bard from The Stone Loft said “When you shop small and local, you make the owners do a happy dance because of all they put into their shops. When you shop local it helps local people; someone’s child gets ballet shoes or a ball glove; it helps the people around you.”
Some specific times this holiday that people can come and support local in Holly include Shop Small Saturday with a chance to win up to $1000 by taking a selfie with your favorite local gem (thanks to Main Street Oakland County and Genisys Credit Union), visiting our awesome Dickens Festival the last weekend in November and first two weekends in December, and of course shopping for your favorite people in your favorite town!
Nick Mendoza from Triple Delight and Company said “We spent months looking for a location that we felt would have a community presence and support small businesses. After looking, we felt we would get the support and partnership we needed to be successful from the Village of Holly. If we have questions, we can call to get answers or be pointed in the right direction. Since opening our doors, we have received business from other local businesses within the Village of Holly and have formed partnerships to help one another. When a community stands together and helps one another and we all thrive. When we shop local, we not only help a small business keep their doors open, but we help them support their family as well.”
