OC Restaurant Quest: Meillie Coffee in Downtown Ferndale

Ferndale, MI – Inside Treat Dreams, at 22965 Woodward Ave in Ferndale, is a new coffee shop called Meillie that focuses on international coffee and snacks.

According to their website, “Meillie’s story begins with a deep love for exploration and a desire to bring the richness of global coffee and tea traditions to our local communities. From the bustling streets of São Paulo to the serene gardens of Kyoto, we have searched far and wide to bring you a blend of unexpected tastes and familiar favorites, all crafted with care.”

I don’t drink coffee, so apologies to those looking for some perspective on that.  Though I can say that their current selections include Hong Kong Love Bird, Viennese Einspanner, Korean Dalgona, Moroccan Coffee and more.

I opted for a Sudanese Tea Latte which is Assam tea steeped in house-made Ceylon cinnamon water, served with steamed milk. This sweet and spicy drink was perfect for a chilly day.

Meillie also has Taiyaki, which is a fish-shaped pastry with fillings which are common in Japan. They don’t taste like fish, they’re just shaped that way.  They taste more like a mix between a waffle and a corn muffin. I had the salami and cheese. There was also nutella, cheese, red bean, and egg on the day I went. These crispy golden cakes are a fun snack. I also had a chocolate cookie sandwich with marshmallow in the middle.

If you go after noon, Treat Dreams is also open, offering up unique ice cream flavors. There are plenty of places to site, giant windows looking out at Woodward Ave, and WiFi, making this a great spot for writers, and everybody else too!
