OC Restaurant Quest – Mon Jin Lau in Troy

Troy, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County recently took me to Mon Jin Lau, which means House of Ten Thousand Jewels. This Nu Asian restaurant in Troy has been serving high quality sushi and other Asian dishes since 1969.
For my Mon Jin Lau feast I ordered the New York Roll, the Negihamachi Roll, and the Avocado Roll, plus an order of Beef Scallion Noodles.
The Scallion Noodles were a tasty mix of wok-seared egg noodles, fresh bean sprouts, scallions, chili peppers, Chinese chives, and Szechuan soy. The Negihamachi Roll is made with scallions and yellow tail. The New York Roll has smoked salmon, cream cheese, and scallion. The avocado is a simple, yet delicious roll made of avocado with sesame seed. Everything was made with care.
Other sushi rolls include the Buddha Roll (asparagus, cucumber, avocado, and red pepper), The Godzilla Roll (krab, tuna, salmon, cucumber, and avocado topped with honey miso drizzle), and the Wu-Tang Roll (freshwater eel, cucumber).
Other menu options include a variety of noodle dishes, as well as vegetarian dishes, and other main courses. The Mandarin Chicken, for example, is served with snow peas, shredded scallions, ginger, and garlic sauce. The Avocado Ribeye is made with thin sliced steak cooked in a wok, avocado, red pepper, onion, jalapeno, cashews, and black pepper sauce. And the Thai Sea Scallops sound delicious with their seared sea scallops with Asian vegetables, rice noodles, and Thai basil-lemongrass sauce.
There are many more delightful meals to try.
Mon Jin Lau is located at 1515 E. Maple Road in Troy. Carryout is easy, but those who dine in will enjoy a beautiful, authentically Asian-themed space that is great for meals as well as gatherings. Around the entrance are photographs of celebrities spanning decades who have enjoyed Mon Jin Lau’s offerings, including Michael Jordan, Mahummad Ali, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, and Eminem.
