Reward Offered for Information in Fatal Hit and Run in Pontiac
(OCSO, Oct. 28, 2023)
Pontiac, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run crash that killed a Pontiac woman early this morning. The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. today on University Drive near Kenilworth in Pontiac.
Sequence Shanell Wright, 29, was attempting to cross University Drive from south to north when she was struck by an unknown motor vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued eastbound on University.
“We are looking for the public’s help locating the person who struck and killed a pedestrian today,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “It’s hard to imagine striking a human being with a vehicle, and instead of doing the basic natural act of stopping and trying to help, to flee. This person needs to be held accountable and a reward from Crime Stoppers is being offered.”
A second vehicle possibly struck Wright’s purse causing minor damage to his vehicle. That vehicle, a 1997 Saab, remained at the scene and was being operated by a 42-year-old Auburn Hills man. The driver said there was a white Ram pick-up near his vehicle at the time but is unsure if it struck the pedestrian or not.
Wright was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Alcohol use may be a factor on the part of the pedestrian. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information about the driver or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
