Ferndale Schools Announces Interim Superintendent, Plans Moving Forward
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 28, 2023)
Ferndale, MI – When Ferndale Public Schools Superintendent Bobbi Goodrum announced that she would be resigning mid-year, it left parents, students, staff, and the school board wondering what would happen next. Those decisions were announced in Friday’s e-blast from the district, which announced that Assistant Superintendent Camille Hibbler will be stepping into the role of Interim Superintendent while the board works to fill the position permanently.
According to the e-blast:
“We are happy to inform the Ferndale Public School community, with great appreciation and confidence, that Assistant Superintendent Camille Hibbler will fill the role of Interim Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations Felicia Wright will be serving as Deputy Superintendent while we work diligently to fill the Superintendent role permanently. Camille has over 15 years of experience in education, including 10 years as a School Administrator and Felicia brings an additional 20 years of experience in various administrative leadership positions.
“Consultants from our intermediate school district—Oakland Schools—came in this week, extending additional support, and will continue through this transition as needed.
“Classroom learning remains our first priority; and we thank all of our teachers, building administrators, and staff members who continue to provide the highest-quality education every day. We also thank all of our school families for your support and trust as we guide our school district through the next stage of growth and improvement. There are many wonderful innovations happening in our schools, and we are excited to share a handful of STEM education stories in our upcoming issue of Ferndale Schools Magazine, due out in November.
It’s a great time to be an Eagle.”
The District’s website gives more background about Hibbler, stating “Camille is a dedicated and committed educational leader who is focused on providing all children with access to a quality education. Camille graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English Education. She obtained her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College.
“Camille began her career as a High School English teacher where she quickly demonstrated effectiveness in significantly improving students’ proficiency. She has served in almost every school based leadership role including Lead Teacher, Dean of Students, Instructional Coach and Principal. She has had the opportunity to be a part of school turnarounds, school start ups, and the institutionalization of strong systems and structures that promote student achievement. Because of her laser focus on equity and high quality instructional materials, Camille was tapped to join the Central Office team at University Prep Schools to lead the district Literacy Curriculum Adoption as well as the adoption of the Teacher and Administrator Evaluation system.
“One of Camille’s proudest moments in her career was the founding of Distinctive College Prep-Redford, an elementary school, where she served as its first Principal. After serving as the instructional leader of this campus, she was asked to serve as a Mentor Principal to support the new Principals on campus. Camille then moved into the role of Regional Managing Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, where she led the Academic Team in supporting curriculum adoption, implementation, and the establishing of systems and structures that promote data analysis for the district.
As a lifelong learner, Camille has had the opportunity to participate in Detroit Leads, Harvard Graduate School of Education’s New and Aspiring Leaders Program, Michigan ASCD Curriculum Leaders Cohort, and UnboundEd’s Standards Institute. An active professional, Camille is a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She has also received several awards including being named to the Michigan Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 list.
Camille is married with two children, which is where her time is spent outside of work.”
