OC Restaurant Quest – Benstein Grille in Commerce Township
Commerce Township, MI – Benstein Grille, on Benstein Road in Commerce Township, is next in our quest to feature every local restaurant in Oakland County. This part of my culinary adventure included a carryout meal of an amazing Goat Cheese Salad with salmon, followed by a slice of Italian Lemon Cream Cake.
The Goat Cheese Salad was made with fried goat cheese, mixed greens, strawberries, blueberries, candied pecans, dried cherries, tomato, cucumber, and raspberry champagne vinaigrette. This varied cast of ingredients came together for an absolutely delicious meal, with the perfectly cooked salmon fitting right in.
The dessert got a little messy in transit, but was nonetheless delicious. The Italian Lemon Cream Cake was light and fluffy with lemon mascarpone cream, fresh berries, and a sweet raspberry sauce that soaked into the cake like a sponge.
There are many delicious items on the Benstein Grille Menu, including lamp chops, pit-smoked brisket, walleye piccata, seafood pasta, and a series of “two-fisted” sandwiches. The Rosemary Marinated Steak Sandwich, made with zip sauces, Swiss chesse, lettuce and tomato on ciabatta bread sounds pretty amazing. So does their Chef Fil-EH! made with crispy buttermilk chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and chef’s special sauce on a toasted brioche bun.
Benstein Grille also features a fine selection of wines, and a list of handcrafted cocktails that includes a Pear Martini, a Black Manhattan, and a Ginni Hendricks made with Hendrick’s Gin, agave syrup, lime juice, fresh basil and soda. There is even a gluten-free menu that includes expected items (like steak bites and salads) as well as modifications of menu items, such as Walleye Piccata made with cornstarch instead of flour, and Lobster Mac without garlic crumbles.
I visited on a sunny day, when the patio area was full. There is indoor seating as well and online ordering for carryout is easy.
