OC Restaurant Quest: Redcoat Tavern in Royal Oak and W. Bloomfield

Royal Oak, West Bloomfield, MI – Since 1972, Redcoat Tavern in Royal Oak has been serving up burgers and more to hungry patrons. There’s also a location in West Bloomfield, but for my Restaurant Quest I went to the original – which now has convenient online ordering.
The burgers have a reputation for being the best, so that’s what I had. The Original Redcoat Special Hamburger is a classic half pound burger made of proprietary beef blend topped with lettuce, tomato, and special sauce on a sesame seed bun. There are lots of additions one could make, including sliced avocado, dijon mustard, truffle aioli, zip sauce, smoked Gouda, fried egg, chopped olives, smoky ghost pepper, raw onion, sauteed shrooms, pico de gallo and more.
They do offer fries, but I opted for sauteed veggies instead, coated with buttery flavor. And the Scotch Egg, which is a boiled egg wrapped in spicy fried sausage served with mustard sauce. Such a flavorful delight.
Redcoat has a number of sandwich options, including the Continental Reuben, The Philadelphia, The Cubano, The Mount Vernon and The Chesapeake. There are also dinners like the Traditional English Prime Rib Dinner with oven-browned potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and horseradish sauce. There are English-style fish and chips, Shepherd’s Pie and Filet Mignon.
Desserts include Pot du Creme chocolate super pudding, Hot Fudge Cream Puff, Raspberry-Pecan Bread Pudding and more.
Patrons are welcome to dine in, basked in the glow of red-hued lamps. And online ordering for carryout is easy.
