OC Restaurant Quest: Orchid Cafe Thai in Troy

Troy, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County took me recently to Troy for some superb Thai cuisine from Orchid Cafe.
I got a carryout of several items to enjoy the variety of flavors. I started with something I’d not had before – Tom Yum soup. This flavorful soup is a popular Thai dish, flavored with kaffri lime leaves, galanga, lemon grass, lime juice, mushrooms, and tomatoes. I loved how this was just the right level of tangy and sour flavors.
For a comfortable favorite I tried the broccoli delight dinner made with sauteed garlic, broccoli, and a brown sauce with a choice of meat. I had beef. Trying something new I had the salmon mango curry dinner, served with steamed rice. This was made of grilled salmon, coconut milk, red curry, Thai basil, pineapple, mango, cherry tomato, and white onion. This complex creation was spicy and sweet at the same time.
The apple salad was an excellent choice. This was made with Shredded fresh green apple tossed with toasted coconut, red onions, crispy shallots, cashew nuts, and cilantro. It comes with shrimp or chicken.
And I also had coconut ice cream, topped with chopped peanuts.
There are many traditional Thai dishes on the menu, including Yum Neau Namtok (Thai-style grilled beef with vegetables, cucumber, tomato, onion, lime juice and cilantro). Khing dinner (Sauteed with ginger, black mushrooms, white and green onions, green and red peppers, garlic and shredded carrots. Sauteed with brown sauce), and woon sen dinner (clear bean thread noodles, stir-fried with eggs, onions, peapods, carrots, celery, baby corn and black mushrooms.).
Orchid Cafe is located at 56 W. Square Lake Road in Troy. Online ordering can be done through Door Dash, though dining in seems like a nice option also, as the restaurant has beautiful flowers and art, plus a fish tank in the center of the dining area. Learn more at https://orchid-cafe.com/
