OC Restaurant Quest Dessert Oasis in Detroit, Rochester, Royal Oak, and Ferndale

Detroit, Rochester, Royal Oak, and Ferndale, MI – While Dessert Oasis has four locations, I opted for the Ferndale location where I met a friend for coffee. I don’t actually drink coffee, but the delicious smell of it filled this traditional coffee shop where people were working on their laptops, reading, or enjoying conversations.
I had the hot chocolate, which came served with a pretty design on top in the foam. Of course this was delicious, as was the Orange Bourbon cake that I ordered as well. The fruit on top had a candied quality to it. The cake was hearty and the frosting was appropriately sweet.
My friend had coffee, which they liked, as well as a blueberry muffin, baked square and served sliced in half.
Each of their coffee choices has a story behind it.
The Rwanda Ejo Heza, for example, comes form an all women’s producer cooperative from Lake Kivu, Rwanda. According to their website, “They exist within the larger cooperative group of Kopakama, founded after the Rwandan genocide with a mission of unifying people for a common good and rebuilding a healthy industry. This led them to the creation of the all women’s subgroup to provide even greater opportunities of growth and equitability for women! Kopakama has been a leader in social and gender equality not only in their community but also in the larger specialty coffee scope.”
The coffee itself is of the bourbon variety and has notes of nectarine, cherry, and butterscotch. Coffee is served a number of ways, like espresso, macchiato, cortado, cappuccino, and latte style.
Desserts, as the name suggests, are a big deal at Dessert Oasis. They make a variety of fresh-baked muffins, cookies, croissants, and other pastries. There is also a selection of cheesecakes, which can be ordered by the slice. Triple Chocolate, Caramel Latte, Pistachio Cannoli, Golden Oreo, and Bailey’s Irish Cream, are among the flavors.
