Therapy Dogs Visit Auburn Hills Community Center
(Jacqueline Monroy, Senior Services Program Coordinator, City of Auburn Hills, Sept. 17, 2023)
Auburn Hills, MI – The Auburn Hills Community Center got a visit from a few extra special guests… therapy dogs from Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs! Of course, we cannot forget about their owners who volunteered their time to bring them over. On Thursday, July 20th, we hosted a lunch in tandem with Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs (MMTD). MMTD is a completely volunteer-based group that visits hospitals, schools, assisted living centers, 911 call centers, colleges, and more. This group was established in 2005 and started with 20 teams of volunteers and their companions. Today MMTD has a whopping 200 teams doing incredible work.
What does it take to join a group like MMTD? These therapy dogs are extensively trained before they go out into the world with their vests on. All of the dogs go through a 12-week program, which are offered in the spring and summer, and must pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test to become a certified therapy dog.

I can PAWS-itively say that we had a great time and hope to partner up again. If you want to know more about Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs, visit www.midmichigantherapydogs.com.
