The Band Mint’s Nine on Nine Concert Delights Downtown Ferndale

Ferndale, MI – On Sundays through the Summertime, Downtown Ferndale hosts the 9 on 9 concert series at Schiffer Park. All the bands are local, and on Aug. 13 it was The Band Mint that got the crowd grooving.
According to their Facebook page, “The Band Mint serves up tasty Detroit style hip hop with a pinch of rock and a funk sprinkle.” The Band Mint’s top song on You Tube is Same Struggle, which looks at the challenges of the music industry. And of course a crowd favorite was “Detroit,” which mentions local hot spots, neighboring cities, and even the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Mercedes Tardella was on the committee of volunteers who selected the bands for the series. Tardella moved to Ferndale two years ago and reached out to the city to volunteer. She said it’s been fun being involved, meeting people, and picking out music. “I’m happy that we had a more hip hop group,” she said. “It’s important to explore different types of music.”
The series has already featured jazz, soul and classical music. The M-1 Jazz Collective played the week before, and still to come are Cabaret Boreale on Aug. 27 and The Sax Machines on Sept. 3. The concerts take place at 4pm each Sunday.
