Deputy Fatally Shoots Driver During Struggle in Pontiac

Pontiac, MI – On Friday morning an incident unfolded in Pontiac that left one deputy injured and a man who had been sleeping in his vehicle dead. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office released a timeline of what unfolded:
Chronology of Aug. 18, 2023 incident in Pontiac
• At 5:48 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a complaint that
an unknown vehicle in road was blocking driveway.
• At 5:54 a.m. deputies arrive.
• Vehicle was running.
• One deputy approaches driver side, one approaches
passenger side.
• Deputy on driver’s side sees that vehicle is in park, subject
sleeping and door unlocked.
o The deputy opens the door to wake the subject up
and sees a gun next to the driver.
• Deputy takes gun and places on roof.
• Advises driver to place hands behind his back.
• Passenger side deputy opens passenger door to assist and
watch the driver.
• The passenger-side deputy partially enters the car and
tries to assist driver-side deputy as the suspect was
resisting being detained and non-compliant with
directions. The driver put the car in gear, and the
passenger-side deputy partially hanging out of car
struggles with him trying to stop him.
• Driver accelerates and crashes into patrol car, a curb, and
then a street sign.
• Passenger side deputy fires one shot
• Medical is called for and transports driver to local hospital
where he was later pronounced deceased.
• Deputy transported to area hospital and is being treated.
Subject was paroled on June 21, 2023, on parole until
September 2024
Under numerous ordered restrictions, parole states the subject
was prohibited from owning or possession of any firearm,
which would be a violation of his parole and state law.

Stolen out of Atlanta, a Glock .45 caliber with extended
magazine loaded with 17 live rounds.
VEHICLE
• 2023 Dodge Charger registered to a firm out of Chicago
