OC Restaurant Quest: Duke’s of Highland

Highland, MI – A popular spot for lunch and dinner is Duke’s of Highland, on Oakland County’s west side.
Since 1992, owner Mike Thrasher has been serving up a variety of meals and drinks at this popular restaurant/bar. In my quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County, I was happy to order a fish sandwich, along with a side of mac and cheese, and the veggie of the day which was green beans.*
The sandwich was made of two pieces of breaded cod and topped with fresh lettuce, onion, and tomato. The battered cod was perfectly flavored and cooked, and the bun was nice and soft. I appreciated the pickle spears that came with it. The mac and cheese was cheesy, and sprinkled with parsley flakes to show that it was made with care. For dessert I got chocolate lava cake, which was very thick and fudgy.
There are a lot of choices on the Duke’s menu.
Among them is a selection of pizzas, with specialty pies that include pickle pizza, Philly beef, BBQ chicken and BLT. There are sandwiches, burgers, and wraps, including the veggie wrap made with stir fried veggies, brown rice, spinach, tomato and teriyaki. They also have tuna salad, roasted turkey, buffalo chicken and more.
Salad choices include the Maurice, the Cobb, the Club, Michigan Chicken, and Coconut Shrimp salad just to name a few.
On top of all this, Duke’s has a stellar selection of entrees that includes kielbasa and sauerkraut, Tuscan chicken, and tenderloin tips.
The restaurant boasts a bar area that is separate from the main dining area, plus there is a cozy little outdoor patio surrounded by evergreen to buffer the sound of traffic. It’s easy to see why this is a popular spot in the Highland and Milford community.
