OC Restaurant Quest: Lefty’s Cheesesteak

Auburn Hills, Royal Oak, Southfield, Walled Lake, West Bloomfield, and Waterford, MI – As far as fast food goes, my heart is always with White Castle. But after a happenstance visit to Lefty’s Cheesesteak in Waterford, I think it’s worth writing about this locally-owned chain featuring a traditionally Philly dish.

There are about 30 locations, most of which are in Michigan. The Waterford location at 101 N. Telegraph provides a central source of thin-sliced ribeye and gooey white American cheese. Other Oakland County locations include Auburn Hills, Royal Oak, Southfield, Walled Lake, West Bloomfield.

I tried the I had the #1 option – the Lefty’s Cheeseteak topped with steak, grilled onions, and white American cheese, with lettuce and tomatoes selected as toppings. Other add-ons include fresh grilled mushrooms, spicy cherry peppers, green bell peppers, pickles, and Lefty’s sauce. The bun was super soft, the meat was a perfect texture, and it had just the right amount of cheese. For an inexpensive fast food place, Lefty’s was impressively good.

Other sandwich options include the BBQ Brisket Hoagie, the Buffalo Chicken Hoagie, Rocky’s Fried Chicken Sandwich, Corned Beef Sandwich, and the Southpaw which comes topped with grilled onions, cheese sauce, and crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Lefty’s also serves chicken wings. Sides include mac and cheese bites, fries, cheesesticks with ranch, fried mushrooms, and chicken tenders. And they have shakes. I had strawberry and it was yummy.
