OC Restaurant Quest: Tallulah Wine Bar and Bistro in Birmingham
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug 5, 2023)
Birmingham, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with a luxurious dinner at Tallulah Wine Bar and Bistro in Downtown Birmingham.
For beverages, my friend enjoyed a glass of Merlot, which she said was a “nice, medium-bodied red that was great for red meat.” I had a bright green-colored cocktail called The First Word, made with Mezcal, Aperol, Green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice.
I started with watermelon salad, which had cubes of watermelon topped with sprigs of baby asparagus and nice-sized pieces of feta, which are an amazing combination of sweet and salty flavors with an earthy, healthy vibe.
My friend stared with watermelon gazpacho made with cucumber, tomato, mint, shallots, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, sherry vinaigrette. They also ordered a fetta fritto, which is feta cheese wrapped in filo dough with tomato jam and green olive mouse. Both were rich and rewarding to the taste buds.
For the main course I ordered the lamb chops which were beautifully laid on a layer of tzatziki with roasted zucchini and bell peppers. The meat was tender, with the creamy tzatziki sauce giving it an extra kick of flavor, accentuated by the peppers.
My friend ordered the prime Filet Mignon, a perfectly tender cut of beef served with roasted baby carrots, onion soubise, and bordelaise. This came cooked perfectly and plated beautifully with microgreens on top.
Other menu choices include Bang Island Mussels (tomato sauce, fennel, shallot, parsley, white wine, toasted baguette), Berkshire Pork Chop (Korean barbeque, rice pudding, peanuts, cilantro, scallion), Whole Branzino (charred zucchini, romesco, cilantro & capers gremolata, lime), and more. Tallulah is known for their wine selection, which is available by the glass, by the pichet, and by the bottle.
Everything was amazing, and the setting was beautiful as well, with nice large windows and strings of lights like stars overhead for this fine dining experience.
