Killer Flamingos Delight Crowd in Orion Twp, Free Concerts at Wildwood Continue

Orion Township, MI – A little bit of rain didn’t stop the good times on July 11 as scores of people filled the hillside of Wildwood Amphitheater in Orion Township to enjoy the upbeat sounds of The Killer Flamingos. Dubbed “Detroit’s biggest and best party band,” they had kids and adults filling in the area in front of the stage to dance to high-energy, popular songs that people love. “Shut up and dance with me,” and “Footloose” were among the crowd favorites.

Killer Flamingos band mates Todd Best, Darren Drake, David Gondoly, Alyssa Simmons and Jeff Supina poured their heart into the show, while the crew of Orion Events was there to greet visitors and sell snacks. Each Tuesday Orion Events provides a free concert for the community as their way of giving back. There are also free movies on Wednesdays.

The other nights rock with assorted concerts and performances with a small admission fee. There are local favorites as well as amazing cover bands. For example on July 22 The “1985 Farm Aid Tribute” will cover artists like John Cougar, Willie Nelson, and Neil Young. And on Aug 25 “Beyond the Blonde” pays homage to Gwen Stefani, Pink, and Lady Gaga. And those only scratch the surface of the variety of music shared at the events.

“We just love seeing the community come out and have a good time,” said John Carson, one of the founders of Orion Events. “This is what summer is all about.”

The next free show is July 18, featuring Bugs Beddow and the Good Stuff. In the following weeks, visitors can enjoy Itchykoo Park, Stone Blossoms, I-90s Detroit, and the Dirk Kroll Band. The series concludes on Aug. 22 with the SE Wind Ensemble.
