Man in Wheelchair Shot with Pellet Gun and Mocked, Police in Pontiac Seek Suspects
(OCSO, July 17, 2023)
Pontiac, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Office detectives are seeking the public’s help finding the suspects who shot a disabled man with a pellet gun and then mocked him as he rode in his wheelchair early Saturday morning.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said a reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting.
“It is reprehensible that someone would do such a cowardly and despicable thing to an individual in a wheelchair, and they need to be held accountable,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. The incident happened at 12:17 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Bennett Street and Baldwin Road in Pontiac.
The victim, a 30-year-old Pontiac man, told deputies he was on the sidewalk heading towards a gas station at the corner of Montcalm and Baldwin when a small tan sedan pulled up next to him and a suspect fired multiple shots from a pellet gun, striking him several times. After the shooting, the occupants of the car laughed and shouted at him and then drove away.
The victim returned to his home and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office. The victim suffered multiple minor wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters remain anonymous.
