July 21 – Summer Shindig and Outdoor Movie at Catalpa Oaks in Southfield

Southfield, MI – Outdoor activities, a concert and a big-screen showing of the movie “Family Camp” will be featured during Summer Shindig, a new event offered by Oakland County Parks (OCP) from 6-10:30 p.m. Friday, July 21 at Catalpa Oaks County Park in Southfield.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to the park for fun in the fresh air and sunshine,” Chief of Recreation Program & Services Brandy Sotke-Boyd said. “Play is important for physical activity as well as social interaction. We’ll have lots of ways for families to make memories and enjoy a variety of activities together.”

Inflatables, a climbing tower, zip line, face painting and balloon artists will be available from 6- 8:30 p.m.

A concert will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. followed by the movie Family Camp which will begin around 9 p.m.

There is no cost for the activities, concert or movie.

Food trucks, including the Little Donut Factory, Kona Ice and Bomb Diggity Dogs, will have doughnuts, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn and more for sale from 6-9 p.m.

Summer Shindig is the evening component of OCP’s Come Out and Play series designed for families, day care centers, friends and youth groups from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 21. Both events are free and open to the public.

For the zip line, children must be at least 45 pounds and 42 inches tall. A waiver form, available at the park the day of the event or in advance at OaklandCountyParks.com, must be signed by a parent or guardian. Zip line participants must also wear closed-toe shoes. Shoes are required for the climbing tower and socks are required for non-water inflatables.

For the water inflatables, a swimsuit or change of clothes is recommended. No registration is needed. Catalpa Oaks County Park is located at 27705 Greenfield Road in Southfield.
