Strangers Work Together to Save Cat Trapped in Floor of Madison Heights Home

Madison Heights, MI – For four days Jordan Reynolds and Anna Hosner could hear the sound of their missing cat Jay crying from somewhere in the floor of their Madison Heights home. They knew the cat was trapped, but they couldn’t figure out where or how it happened.
“I’ve been in the crawlspace alone for 12 hours just hearing him inches away this entire time,” Reynolds told Oakland County Times. He even cut a hole in the wall hoping to reach the clearly distressed creature.
Hosner has had Jay for seven years, and Reynolds has been sharing in the snuggles and the litter duty for about four of those. When the cat went missing ten days ago, it was hard enough on their hearts. But to hear it and not be able to reach it was torture.
The couple contacted companies that trap wild animals in people’s homes, but none could help in this situation. Reynolds asked for help on social media, posting bout the predicament in Madison Heights Community Cares Facebook group, and neighbors came forward with ideas, and tagging others who might be able to help.
Four in particular came to the rescue, finding the cat and cutting a hole to access the crawl space, and using the camera on their phone to verify the cat’s location. Then he chipped away until the hole was big enough to pull the kitty out. The whole thing took about three hours as they had to be careful not to injure the cat, and cautious of a nearby gas line. But finally Jay was pulled to safety.
While hugs and cuddles were definitely desired, the exhausted cat’s first task was to re-hydrate. The beautiful black-furred feline seems to be doing well, Reynolds reports.
He shared the success on social media, to the delight of his neighbors online. And he’s shared his gratitude with those who helped.
“Kimberly Wallace, Donny Clack and his fiancé Hannah, and Donny’s friend Brandon were the 4 key people to the success of this. All of them strangers until this morning when they saw my post. They did it free out of love.”
