OC Restaurant Quest: Sakana Sushi Lounge in Downtown Ferndale

Ferndale, MI – The quest to try every restaurant continues with a visit to Downtown Ferndale for Sakana Sushi Lounge.
A friend and I had a lovely lunch in this longstanding local business. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen Noodles in pork broth with baby bok choy, broccoli, asparagus, sweet onion, scallion, and carrot with bulgogi which is thin sliced grilled beef.I also ordered the vegetable tempura maki. The rich warm soup was perfect for the rainy day that we went, and the sushi was a great match.
My friend ordered tempura vegetables, which are a variety of veggies in a crispy breading served with udon soup. They also had the cucumber/avocado rolls and the volcano roll, each made with fresh delicious fresh ingredients.
To go along with all that delicious food, we had the Lychee Iced Tea, which is made with Soho Lychee, watermelon schnapps, Smirnoff Cherry Vodka, and iced tea – a tasty combination.
The menu has a variety of other items to choose from. Among them are baked mussels, sweet and sour chicken, spicy rice bowls, and chicken katsu. There are a number of maki, sashimi, and nigiri. Among the maki are choices like Jalapeno Hamachi Maki, Cherry Blossom Maki, Salmon Crunch Maki, Lion King Maki, Mushroom Maki and more. For nigiri and sashimi the choices include yellow tail, squid, flying fish roe, sea scallop and more.
For dessert there is mochi ice cream or tempura ice cream.
This was a great place for a meal, to dine in or for carryout. According to their website, “Sakana Sushi Lounge is proud to be a member of the Ferndale community since 2006. Owned and operated by Boston natives Kon and Greg Kim, they came to Metro Detroit with a vision to introduce a relaxing and modern take on Sushi.”
