Orion Township, MI – Resident and visitors have even more to love in Orion Township as the Parks and Recreation Department announces the completion of two exciting projects – the expansion of the beach at Camp Agawam and the addition of a fitness park at Civic Center Park.
BEACH EXPANSION
The beach expansion doubles the size of beach area at Tommy Lake, which remains surrounded by the beauty of nature of Camp Agawam. There is a roped-off swimming area, added areas of sand with a new retaining wall. There are several benches and picnic tables, plus there is a building with restrooms and showers for visitors to change.
Camp Agawam has a plethora of recreation features including nature trails, a disc golf course, the Firebowl concert space, camping and rental cabins, and a playground.
Located at 1301 Clarkston Road, “Camp Agawam has always been a cherished gathering place for our community, and with the addition of the expanded beach area, it is now an even more desirable destination for outdoor recreation,” stated Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett. “This project is part of our long-term commitment to the community and goal of providing exceptional recreational opportunities that promote an active and vibrant community for all.”
FITNESS PARK
Located at 2525 Joslyn Road, in Civic Center Park, is the new Fitcore Extreme fitness park.
According to an Orion Township Press release, “The course offers a wide variety of obstacles strategically designed to engage both body and mind. You’ll leap from one step to the next on Quintuple Steps, then move on to test your grip strength on Ledge Hanger, you’ll stretch your skills as your traverse between two walls for Spiderwalk, there’s no backing out of Jump Hang – will you choose to go below or pull yourself up and go over the top? You’ll then have to carefully navigate across the Wheel Bridge, which is no easy task as each wheel spins the moment you grab it. It’s time to finally finish the course with the tap of a bell at the top of the Rope Climb.
“With each obstacle mastered, individuals will gain confidence, strength, and a renewed sense of achievement. Do you have what it takes to conquer the course? Whether you’re an experienced athlete or a fitness novice, this course offers an inclusive environment, encouraging individuals to strive for personal improvement while fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.”
Of this, Supervisor Barnett said “We invite residents and visitors alike to embrace this new challenge and discover the joy of testing their limits while enjoying the beauty of Orion’s natural surroundings.”
