“So many adults have never been taught the basics of saving and are unable to cope when they get faced with unexpected financial challenges like a car repair,” said Financial Capability Manager Laltsha Cunningham. “But an important step in the path to financial security is learning how to save and there are many simple measures that families can take to build that nest egg and begin their family’s journey to generational wealth.”

Cunningham said that since the program started in 2021, local families have faced additional financial pressures because of the pandemic and inflation, so a decision was made to now offer up to $150 to participants in the Savvy Savers program who were unable to demonstrate savings due to financial difficulties. “Our program is designed to get everyone into the mindset of saving regularly and we hope this incentive will be an added encouragement to come to our meetings,” said Cunningham.
