(OCSO, May 12, 2023)
Pontiac, MI – A 32-year-old Pontiac resident with a lengthy criminal history is being held without bond in Monday’s shooting death of another man.
Maurice Eugene Sanders was arraigned today in 50th District Court in Pontiac on a host of charges, including open murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
Judge Jeremy Bowie set a May 23 date for Sanders’ next appearance. Sanders is charged in the death of Wyatt Earp Gean, 66, of Pontiac.
On Monday shortly before 3 a.m., Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of Whittemore St. on a report of shots fired. Deputies arrived at a residence to find that Gean had been shot in the chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries during surgery.
Detectives were able to link the death to Sanders and arrested him within 11 hours of the shooting. The shooting happened after an argument. Sanders’s criminal history dates to 2007 in Florida and 2013 in Georgia and includes vehicle theft, drug possession, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and fleeing from police.
