(Holly Area Schools, March 11, 2023)
HOLLY, Mich. — More than 200 Holly High School and Holly Middle School students learned about lucrative careers in the skilled trades at the recent Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Open House at Holly High School.
“Skilled trades industries across Michigan offer boundless opportunities, so we were thrilled to have such a great turnout for our Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Open House,” Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent, said of the April event. “Our open house is part of a continued commitment at Holly Area Schools to provide diverse learning and real-world experiences that help prepare students for the jobs of the future”
Students met with representatives from 44 organizations across Michigan and learned about career paths in manufacturing, construction, information technology, energy and more. The vendors represented labor and operating unions, trade schools, apprenticeship programs at community colleges, and private labor and services businesses. The event included a raffle of items produced by Holly High School’s construction trades students. All district Career and Technical Education teachers were also on hand to lend their expertise at the event.
“Our open house allowed our Bronchos to meet face-to-face with professionals who could one day offer them employment or participation in apprenticeship programs,” said Jennifer Fettig, the district’s director of career programming and business partnerships, who organized the event. “We look forward to continuing to build relationships with skilled trades groups as our students prepare for bright futures and the jobs of tomorrow.”
