OC Restaurant Quest: Pizza Cat in Madison Heights Serves Up GF Crusts, Unique Flavors
(Crystal A. Proxmire, orig. May 3, 2023)
Madison Heights, MI – The motto of Pizza Cat is “keep pizza weird,” and with a variety of gluten-free crusts and a slew of artisan toppings, Pizza Cat succeeds.
Before I even get into my “Slick Willys” pie, I have to write about the crust options. Mine was made on on Gluten-Free which is also vegan. They also have cauliflower crust, thin pan style crust, hemp crust which is also vegan and GF, and chicken crust which they say is perfect for a Keto diet.
The GF crust was thin, but not too thin, with edges where the dough and and the cheese were perfectly crispy. The Slick Willys was topped with Extra Cheddar Blend, Pizza Sauce / Mustard, Ground Beef, Pickle & Red Onion. This amazing pizza had the flavor of a burger with the cheesiness of pizza. A perfect combination. I shared it with a friend who regularly eats a GF diet, and they agreed it was amazing.
Customers can build their own pizza, with toppings like artichoke, banana pepper, mushrooms, olives (including Kalamata), feta, turkey bacon, goat cheese, brisket, corned beef, shrimp, and many many more.
But then there are quite a few specialty pies to choose from as well.
Dave’s Spicy Reuben has 1000 Island, Boom Boom Sauce, Heavy Corned Beef & Kraut. The Good Fellas has Sweet BBQ, Cheddar Blend, Chicken, Bacon & Roasted Red Pepper. And the Smelly Cat has Garlic Butter, Salami, Roasted Garlic, Red Onion & Sausage. There are over two dozen creative pizza choices.
Pizza Cat also serves chicken wings and chicken chunks with a whole list of “Weird Sauce” options, including Diablo Gato, Carolina Boom, Drewberry, and Sriracha. Don’t worry, for those less adventurous folks they also have ranch.
Plus there are toasted bagel sandwiches and cupcakes. AND their decor is all about weird little kitties and the color pink, making it stand out amongst their pizza peers.
The Madison Heights location is at 27723 Dequindre, just north of 11 Mile Road. There are also locations in Toledo, Westland, and Greektown Detroit, and opening soon in Sandusky OH and Jacksonville Beach FL. For the full menu and locations visit https://pizzacat.com.
